Five-Card Draw is a traditional high-hand poker game and a useful introduction to the draw format. Each player sees only their own cards, so betting patterns and the number of cards exchanged provide most of the available information.

Winning objective
Make the highest standard five-card poker hand, from one pair through a royal flush. Unlike the lowball games on Mixed Game Pro, ordinary high-hand rankings apply.
Deal and drawing
After antes or blinds, each player receives five cards face down. A betting round is followed by one draw, then a final betting round and showdown.
Key comparison
Standing pat means exchanging no cards. Drawing three often represents one pair, drawing one often represents two pair or a four-card draw, but opponents can vary their choices to disguise a hand.

Who acts first, and what can you do?
In a blinds game with three or more players, betting starts to the left of the big blind before the draw. After the draw, the first remaining player to the left of the dealer button acts first. Heads-up, the button is the small blind: they act first before the draw and last after it. Ante games can use different opening rules.
Checking passes the action without adding chips. If everyone checks, the round ends. The big blind can also check before the draw when nobody has raised.
Calling matches the amount outstanding. Raising increases the total your opponent must match. If everyone else folds, you win immediately without a draw or showdown.
No-limit lets you bet up to your remaining stack. Fixed-limit uses set increments; pot-limit caps the maximum by the pot. Minimum raises and short all-ins still follow the table rules.

A Five-Card Draw betting example
A three-player no-limit table uses 1/2-chip blinds, no ante, and allows up to five discards. Everyone starts with 100 chips. These sample actions illustrate the rules.

The deal. You are on the button with Q♠ Q♥ 9♣ 6♦ 2♠. The small blind posts 1 and the big blind posts 2. The pot is 3 chips.

First betting round. You raise to 6 chips total. The small blind folds; the big blind adds 4 to call. The pot is now 13: your 6, their 6, and the folded small blind’s 1.

The draw. The big blind exchanges three cards first. You keep Q♠ Q♥ and exchange 9♣ 6♦ 2♠ for Q♣ 7♦ 3♥. Your new hand is Q♠ Q♥ Q♣ 7♦ 3♥: three queens.

Final betting round. The big blind checks. You bet 8 and they call 8. The pot increases from 13 to 29 chips. There is no second draw.

A practical first discard plan
These are beginner baselines, not automatic decisions. Position, previous betting, table format, blockers, and opponent tendencies can change the best play.
Keep all five cards and use the final betting round for value or deception.
Keep the three matching cards and draw toward a full house or four of a kind.
Discard the kicker and try to fill up.
Keep the pair; stronger pairs and better position generally support more action.
Continue selectively when the draw, price, and position justify it.
Avoid entering too many pots that require several cards to improve.

Five-Card Draw uses normal high-hand rankings, while 2-7 Single Draw awards the pot to the lowest qualifying hand and penalizes straights and flushes.
Does Five-Card Draw use community cards?
No. Every player receives five private cards, and only that player may use or exchange them.
How many betting rounds are in Five-Card Draw?
There are normally two: one after the initial five-card deal and one after the draw.
